Party on, Poirot.

Ah, mes amis, exercise "the little gray cells" today in honor of David Suchet, who was surely born to play Hercule Poirot, as luck would have it, on this day in 1946.  This year Suchet will portray Poirot in five more productions, which will allow him to "round out the canon" of Christie's works about the Belgian detective.  http://tinyurl.com/88ksnd2

Over the years, better known actors gave a go at Poirot--Peter Ustinov's Poirot was faintly ludicrous, Albert Finney's was just plain weird--but it is Suchet's generous performance, combining just the right touches of grace and gravity, that has allowed his character to wear astonishingly well, and while Acorn TV has purchased the rights to some of Christie's works and is contemplating what is described as a "grittier" version of Poirot http://tinyurl.com/cab8x6n , it's hard to believe it will trump Suchet's cache.
