I suppose I should go out and occupy some street somewhere, but instead I'm going to occupy my couch tonight and enjoy some absinthe  in honor of Anatole France, the Nobel-prize winning novelist, poet and journalist who was born in Paris on this day in 1844 and who may be best known for his aphorisms, which include:

The law in its majestic equality forbids the rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets and to steal bread.

It is human nature to think wisely and act in an absurd fashion.

Plus ca change, Monsieur France--and bon anniversaire!
