In related news, another round of casting has been conducted on the Andrew Lloyd Webber-helmed musical TINA!! set for opening in this fall. Based on the life of Daily Beast/Newsweek/New Yorker editrix Tina Brown, the musical will star Ms. Brown playing herself and Ron Rifkin as legendary editor William Shawn. "Who better than Tina Brown to play Tina Brown," Brown noted. "Phantom just finished its 10,000th performance. With a good cosmetic surgeon and trainer on my team I see no reason why we can't equal that."
An anonymous source describes Brown's musical number "I Hump New York" in which Brown, riding a unicyle and juggling dwarves, chases Rifkin wearing an Adlai Stevenson button and riding a motorized desk chair, as "like nothing else you'll see on Broadway this year."
The recent auditions were for canine performers. The initial version of the play called for a female chorus dressed in scanty bee costumes to follow Ms. Brown around the stage, thus providing her trademark "buzz." However, according to the same source, "with all these people going crazy for mutts in the movies, Andrew and Tina decided to recast the chorus as a dog that Tina will carry around. His name will be Buzz."
